Stan Winikoff graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1964 and from Duquesne University School of Law in 1967. Following graduation from law school, Stan clerked for the Pennsylvania Attorney General drafting briefs on behalf of the Commonwealth that were filed in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court and as well as other state and federal courts. Stan also drafted position papers for the Attorney General on the constitutionality, legality and form of legislation presented to the Governor for signature. Additionally, he monitored the proceedings of the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention which redrafted the Pennsylvania Constitution.

After passing the bar, he was appointed Deputy Attorney General. In that position, he represented the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Bureau of Probation and Parole, the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and other state agencies including the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.

His work at PHRC brought him into contact with the Chairman of the Commission, Max Rosenn, who requested that he assumed a full-time position as General Council. Stan held that position until 1973. Mr. Rosenn was later appointed as a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

While at the commission, he mediated and prosecuted cases filed with PHRC, handled personnel and administrative matters, drafted policy and position papers and appeared for the Commission in state and federal courts.

Stan joined DiBella and Geer as counsel to the firm. From 2002 to 2006, Stan managed the Pittsburgh office of a regional law firm. He left that practice to form Winikoff Associates in early 2006.

Stan's current practice involves civil rights, personal injury, insurance coverage and commercial litigation.

During his legal career, Stan has tried more than 125 cases to verdict and has participated in numerous mediations and arbitrations. That participation led to his selection as a mediator and arbitrator. Alternative dispute resolution now forms a major part of his practice.

Stan is a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the West Virginia State Bar, the Allegheny County Bar Association as well as alternative dispute resolution groups including the Pennsylvania Council of Mediators and the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania. He has undergone extensive training in mediation and alternative dispute resolution from the American Bar Association, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the West Virginia State Bar and Pepperdine University. He has spoken on mediation topics at several Pennsylvania Bar Institute seminars as well as local bar association groups.

Mr. Winikoff has also been elected to the Allegheny County Academy of Trial Lawyers.

He is admitted to practice in all Pennsylvania and West Virginia state and federal courts.
